Learning to play piano is a journey shaped by your goals, practice habits, and emotional connection to the music. Each child is different and has different gifts and talents.  I believe ALL children have specific unique & special skills blended with who they are as a person.  It is my goal as a teacher to develop each child’s talent based on where they are at and developing their own intrinsic motivation for adding music and piano into their lifestyle.

Teaching piano involves weaving together foundational elements into a holistic approach that nurtures both expressive artistry and confident musicianship.  In other words, I utilize specific concepts to develop the whole musician, such as:

One on One - Tutor Instruction

Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

I mainly utilize the Faber Method books. I also weave in the above topics and add classical music concepts into their repertoire as students gain ability.  As a child’s goals start to develop, I try to incorporate as many of the above as possible into their interests. Regardless of where they end up, each child will have had a taste of each of the above components to learning piano fully.

Ensemble & Duet work

Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

Playing in ensembles and duets teaches a pianist how to listen as closely as they play — matching tone, sharing rhythm, and shaping phrases together like a single musical breath. It builds awareness, cooperation, and timing in a way solo practice never can, turning music into a conversation instead of a monologue.

It also strengthens confidence and adaptability. When students play with others, they learn to stay steady, recover quickly, and respond to the subtle cues of a partner or group. Ensemble and duet work deepens musicality, sharpens technique, and makes the piano feel less solitary and more alive — a shared experience that expands both skill and joy.
